How Do You Get 1080p From The Playstation 3?

I have a HD Tv that supports 1080p, but my playstation 3 only outputs 720p when I play my games, and 1080i when I play my movies. I have one of the older HDMI cables, should I get the new 1.3 HDMI cables? will it affect much?

Is your TV a true 1080p TV or is it a 720p TV that allows you to input 1080p signals (which it downscales).
Unless it is a true 1080p TV, leave your PS3 as is. If not, make sure the PS3 is not in Auto mode, but in 1080p mode. Your HDMI cable is fine.

Well 1st of all, make sure that your ps3 video settings is set to 1080p. If it is, it should output to 1080p. And 2nd, 1.3 cables will make some difference but not noticeable by most people unless you are coached on how too make your theater perfect. O, if your movies are DVD, they will upscale upto only 1080i and some games only support 1080p. Most games only play 720p and if you want true hi-def 1080p movies, you need blu-ray movies.

First of all, the quality will only goes as high as the game is meant to go. If you look at the back of the game box, it will say supported video HD output: and then the all the hd it supports, not all games support up to 1080p HD. most of them are 720p. You probably should get an updated cable, it might help the quality a little.

does your tv have a resolution selector? maybe that’s what’s going on. check the settings in the ps3 as well. i didnt have to change anything though. it was 1080p out of the box. not sure what’s going on with yours. you definately don’t need to upgrade to the new 1.3 standard either.
